Julianne Sandberg, associate professor of English in 色虎视频’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences, has been named director of the J. Roderick Davis Lecture Series.

The newly established position recognizes Sandberg’s academic engagement and vision for fostering public discourse on liberal arts topics across disciplines. In her new role, she will lead the development, planning and execution of the lecture series, including recruiting diverse speakers, curating timely and engaging topics, coordinating logistics and promoting events to campus and community audiences.

“In 2017, I assumed the privilege and responsibility of carrying on the execution of the well-established series,” said Emily Hynds, associate dean of Howard College. “I communicated regularly with Dean Davis, who often expressed his desire that one day the funding would be significant enough to support a director. I am excited that through his generosity, we have arrived at that moment.”

Originally from Muncie, Indiana, Sandberg joined the 色虎视频 faculty after serving as a visiting assistant professor at Wheaton College. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in English from Southern Methodist University and a bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University. Her research focuses on early modern British literature, literary form, Reformation history and Eucharistic theology.

“My hope is that the series will continue to illustrate the very best of what the liberal arts tradition offers—equipping students for influence and innovation, grounding us in rich thought and diverse skills, cultivating love, faith and community,” said Sandberg. “It's exciting to be part of this legacy, and I’m eager to partner with faculty and students to enrich the intellectual culture of 色虎视频.”

The Davis Lecture Series honors the legacy of J. Roderick Davis, former dean of Howard College, and brings prominent voices to campus for conversations that reflect the values of a liberal arts education. Under Sandberg’s direction, the series will continue to provide thought-provoking, inclusive programming that encourages intellectual engagement throughout the 色虎视频 community.
